Traveling with medical marijuana in Florida is risky; if detected, local police may intervene, and having a medical marijuana card does not guarantee protection under federal law.
Local police can take judgmental action upon TSA's notification.
Being caught without a medical marijuana card can lead to legal problems.
Marijuana is still classified as a Schedule I substance under federal law.
Airports operate under federal law, adding complexity to state medical marijuana laws.
Below is an AI-generated transcript of the video answer.
TSA announced that medical marijuana can be permitted
in carry-on and check bags.
Sounds like great news.
Here's the catch buried in the fine print.
If TSA finds marijuana at a security checkpoint,
they are required to notify local police
and they determine what happens to you next.
Florida has medical marijuana,
but federal law still classifies it
as a Schedule I substance
and airports operate under federal jurisdiction.
TSA itself is not gonna arrest you.
That's not their job.
But the moment that they call airport police,
you're now dealing with an officer's judgment.
Without a valid medical marijuana card,
even a small amount is a real problem.
With a card, you're in a much better position,
but you're still subject to how the situation unfolds.
The bottom line is, traveling with marijuana in Florida
is a risk management decision.
Know the law before you pack.
