So you just got served your court papers. What do you do next? The first thing not to do is ignore it. Court papers are a very important timeline. It varies depending on the type of papers you were served. You have summons and complaints, you have petitions, notice of motions, and things of that nature. But generally, you have about 20 to 30 days depending on what you were served to respond. In the event that you do not respond, you can get a default judgment served against you. Now, what is a default judgment? That means the other side gets to win and everything that they ask for, they get without you even getting a chance to tell your side of the story. So in this instance, you do not talk to them directly at all. You preserve any information that you may or may not have in connection to this petition or summons and complaint, whatever you got served, and you speak to a lawyer immediately. The lawyers such as us would contact you, exchange information, what about the situation compared to what they're alleging in the summons and complaint, and we'll work out a strategy and a way to answer and have your affirmative defense and have your right and your time in court. So reach out to the information below and hope to work with you soon. Thanks.
