My Canadian immigration application was refused. What's next?

00:00If your Canadian immigration application was refused, here are the steps to take. The first step would be to read the refusal letter carefully. It tells you the exact reason for the decision. While most decisions now come with the officer's decision notes, it is advisable you get your GCMS notes. This shows what the officer relied on. The next step will be to identify your options depending on the case. You may be able to submit a reconsideration, file a new application properly or pursue a judicial review. There is no timeline for reconsideration. However, if you want to pursue a judicial review, you have 15 days if you are in Canada and 60 days if you are outside Canada. It is important that you get legal advice before taking any steps.
